1. Do I need to be a beginner to join the founders cohort?
-An adult (age 20+) beginner, or a returning flutist who is happy going back to day one to review basics and build a solid foundation.
2. Are intermediate and advanced courses available?
-Fluter is growing! Our beginner level is the first step in a four-level learning program, with an intermediate level and two advanced levels planned for the future. Join the email list to be notified as new levels become available!
3. What is covered in the online weekly class?
-Our weekly hour-long group classes are a chance to ask questions, review the week’s lessons, explore flute-related topics, and connect with other Fluter members. We’ll celebrate your progress with an online recital at the end of the six-week cohort! Sharing your music is encouraged, but performing in the recital is completely optional. This is a supportive space to learn, grow, and enjoy making music together!
4. What if I can't make it to every weekly class?
-My hope is that everyone can meet live each week, but I know conflicts will happen. Weekly classes will be recorded, and playbacks will be available for founding members during the 6-week cohort group. Members are always welcome to share questions/comments/reflections in the Fluter online community.
5. When do the group classes meet?
-The first live meeting will be on Saturday, November 7th at 11 AM Central Time. The following meetings will be on Nov. 14th, 21st, 28th, December 5th, 12th, and the final recital will be on December 19th. Each meeting will be at 11 AM except Nov. 28th, which will be at 6PM Central Time.
6. Where do the group classes meet?
-This is the beauty of online classes... we meet wherever you are! Use your computer or tablet to join the online group classes and your private lessons. You can also use your phone, but it is not ideal because of the small screen size.
7. What about the instrument?
-You need a flute in good playing condition. We will use the concert C flute for Fluter. While there are many other beautiful flutes, I'm focusing on the fingerings and techniques of the concert flute in the key of C - this is the typical flute used in concert bands/marching bands/orchestras.
8. Is the app available on the app store?
-Not yet. As part of Fluter's beginning we'll access a web app for the cohort group. The native app is in development and hopefully will be available by the full launch on January 1st, 2027!
9. How will the private lessons work?
-We will compare schedules and arrange two 45-minute lessons during the six-week cohort. We'll meet online in a digital classroom. We will work on your specific challenges and find how best you can improve!
10. What happens when I sign up?
-I'l be incredibly excited, and hopefully YOU will be TOO! I'll get your fingering charts, printed lessons, and practice journal in the mail. You'll receive a welcome email with log-in instructions. You'll have access to the Fluter community. You can schedule times for your two private lessons. On Thursday, November 5th, Lesson One Opens! We'll work through that lesson together in the first group class on Saturday, November 7th.
