About the Author
Kristin Grant is a flutist, educator, conductor, and lifelong learner with more than forty years of teaching experience. Originally from Oklahoma, she has lived and studied across the United States, calling Arizona, Texas, California, and now Arkansas home. Her love of travel and meeting people from different cultures has shaped both her music-making and her teaching, reinforcing her belief that music is a language that connects people around the world. Starting in 2020, she taught online classes to reach learners everywhere!
Kristin holds a Master of Music in Flute Performance from the University of North Texas, where she studied with Terri Sundberg, and a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance from the University of Arizona, where she studied with Jean-Louis Kashy. She is an active chamber musician and performs with several Arkansas ensembles, including the Trescendo Trio, South Winds, the Mockingbird Flute Quartet, and The Muses Creative Artistry Project. She is a former member of the Pine Bluff Symphony Orchestra, and her solo performances have been broadcast on KUAR 91.5. She has presented clinics, masterclasses, and flute choir workshops at regional and national conferences. Kristin serves as Assistant Professor of Music at Ouachita Baptist University and teaches flute at the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts. She also conducts the Hot Springs Flute Ensemble and serves on the Board of Directors of the Arkansas Flute Society. When Kristin is not teaching or performing, she enjoys working in her pottery studio, traveling, hiking, and spending time with her husband, Mattthew, and their son Jacob.
After more than forty years of teaching students of all ages: from beginners to university music majors, Kristin created Fluter, an online learning community and educational platform to make expert flute instruction more accessible to students wherever they are. Her goal is to help every student build confidence, play with expression, and discover the joy of making music.
